Hi guys! So how do you like your lunch? Wasn’t that good right? I know we really need to change our cafeteria
So, today I’ll be presenting the reason why I took this course. It’s because I wanted to use and practice my English. Since middle school we learned a lot about English. But we don’t really have chance to use them. I thought I might be able to practice English as long as I have to do a presentation in this course
And also I made couple of plans to help myself to use English. First thing was doing a interpreting volunteer job at BEXCO. And the other was applying for the Global Guemjeng(금정) Supporters.
I thought interpreting volunteer work would give me a chance to use English and also some useful information about any subjects that the conference deals with.
And Global Guemjeng Supporters was believed to give me chances to meet many other foreigners and become their friends. Which will allowed me to practice English while communicating with them and learn some foreign cultures too.
I hope you guys find some benefits from my experience.
First, story about interpreting volunteer job. Before I got picked as a member, I had an interview. And it was all in English. They checked how fluent my English is. There was no grammar test or any other form of knowledge-based test. All they wanted to see was how much I can use English not how much I know about English. And depend on how fluent I can speak English, the working part was decided too. Here I realized using English is what matters.
The conference where I worked was called Busan Contents Market. There comes a lot of international companies and they sell or buy media contents such as movies, dramas or animations.
My job was helping those companies to make businesses. Arrange Meetings, help them if there is any inconvenience and also interpret Korean companies if it’s needed.
As long as all the companies are from different countries, they use English to communicate with other people so I had a lot of chances to use it. Interesting thing was there was a huge difference in English pronunciation depends on where he or she came from. It was hard to understand some accents from particular countries like France or china. Through this I learned why we have to speak slowly and correctly. It is not easy to understand your English if you are not a native speaker.
